Let’s Discover the Treasure of the Romanian Language Together – An Educational Reading Program for Romanian Children in Italy

PRESS RELEASE
We are pleased to announce that the Institute for the Development of Educational Assessment (IDEE Association), in partnership with the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Archangel Michael” in Mirano, Italy, and the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Prophet Zechariah” in Monfalcone, Italy, has developed the project “Let’s Discover the Treasure of the Romanian Language Together! – A Reading-Based Educational Program for Romanian Children in Italy”, funded by the Department for Romanians Abroad. Through this project, 50 Romanian children from the towns of Mirano, Padova, and Noale in the Veneto region, and from Monfalcone in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, will participate in reading clubs organized as part of the program, between October and November 2022.
Children will receive all necessary materials free of charge and will have the opportunity to practice the Romanian language in an engaging, fun, and friendly environment. Romanian authors of the selected readings are invited to meet their young readers directly in Italy. As a result, the children will enjoy an extraordinary, memorable experience, during which they will be able to meet the authors, ask questions, receive autographs, and learn the stories behind the books they read. Who knows—perhaps this experience will inspire among them a new generation of future writers.
The project funded by the Department for Romanians Abroad also aims to establish a library within the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Archangel Michael” in Mirano, Italy, and to equip the library of the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Prophet Zechariah” in Monfalcone, Italy. Both institutions will receive IT equipment and appropriate furniture to support educational activities with children.
The libraries in Mirano and Monfalcone will remain open to readers even after the project ends. The educational center associated with the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Archangel Michael” in Mirano will continue the reading clubs with a maximum of 20 places per group, including online participation, for children registering for remote reading clubs within six months of the project’s conclusion. Moreover, upon request, the educational center at “Saint Archangel Michael” Church will provide interested teachers with the reading club curriculum, should they wish to replicate the activity in other regions of Italy.
